Stroboscopic Artefacts release the first episode in their clear vinyl Totem series, a sequence dedicated to differing interpretations of the aesthetic space constructed by techno and club cultures. Continuing a study previously conducted by Stroboscopic Artefacts, Totem analyses the architecture of music, aiming to collapse the artist, the intention of their practice and the way in which it resonates with the public into one cohesive piece. Label-head Lucy, the moniker of Luca Mortellaro, goes first, presenting ‘Tarkomania’, a circular composition featuring vocals from Tarkovsky’s ‘Stalker’ monologue. To begin, a relatively pumping bassline supports the sampled vocal while dreamy house elements punctuate the track and monologue’s development. It’s not until three minutes in that the single really gets going, as the vocals fall out and the melody arrives, carrying us on a trippy, spaced out journey towards the track’s conclusion. The release also features a moody dub and additional acapella mix of the track.
