The first release for three years on Untold’s Pennyroyal label comes courtesy of the mysterious Zeki. We’re reliably informed that Zeki is a new alias for a well-known UK producer, but no further clues are given as to their identity. One thing’s for sure - whoever they are, they’re a dab-hand on the mixing desk. These four cuts are heady, slightly psychedelic combinations of grime and techno. The latent influence of garage also lurks in the background of the grooves, though Zeki never allows a two-step or a shuffle to fully materialise. Hazy, somewhat unnerving square-wave duppies ‘Goofy’ and ‘Organism’ leave one wondering what Proc Fiskal might get up to if he ever appeared on The Trilogy Tapes.
