Prins Thomas has certainly been generous with his offering on the first (and apparently only) remix EP of material from Kelly Lee Owens’ eponymous debut album. Thomas’ ‘Diskomiks’ of the KLO original ‘Bird’ runs to over seventeen minutes, and even the DJ edit clocks in at a good eight. The lengthier one is a masterful take from Thomas who uses all of his know-how to craft a brilliantly balanced rework. Beginning with pulsing synths and a gentle patter of percussion, the second quarter of the track spins out a minimal techno pulse. This then blossoms into a piece of Nordic disco of the sort that has become Thomas’s stock-in-trade. The track ends in a mirror-image of its start. Owens’ version, an atmospheric piece of 100-bpm techno, is also included on this release.
