Known for his techno production while performing as Manni Dee, the producer is also a successful ambient musician with outputs on Tabernacle and Bastakiya Tapes under the Nuances moniker. Garnering a reputation for himself with politicized tracks like 2016’s ‘Cameron On a Guillotine’, Manni Dee has returned with another LP that seems to speak from a similar perspective on issues like austerity and the atmosphere of disenfranchisement within British youth culture. Song names include the evocative ‘Vicarious Living’, a chilled out interlude in the middle of the LP reminiscent of Aphex Twin’s ‘Ambient Works’. However, don’t get the impression this is all The Residue attempts to offer, as the LP swings comfortably between club bangers and lo-fi weirdness. The use of white noise on ‘Subterranean Choke’ is characteristic of the kind of harsh sound utilised throughout.
