Mark Fell with one of his Mark Fell-iest records yet here. Intra expands on a compositional technique Fell used in a 2017 Sheffield installation entitled Time And Space Shapes For Gamelan, something he created alongside Laurie Spiegel. Sending electronic triggers to a set of headphone-wearing drummers, Fell manages to lead the Drumming Grupo de Percussao ensemble through these eight pieces for the Sixxen metallophone, a microtonal percussive instrument first designed by legendary avant-gardist Iannis Xenakis. Taking compositional cues from Gamelan and Indian classical styles, Fell has created tinkling soundscapes that ripple with a rich micropolyphony. This one is out as a Boomkat Edition.
