Accredited with the creation of ‘skrangle-house’ (literally translated from Norwegian as ‘rattle-house’) alongside Erot during the late 90s, Torske has operated as an influence for stellar producers such as Todd Terje and Prins Thomas for the past two decades. Byen is a welcome insight into Torske’s current vision, his first LP in seven years, although a handful of EPs and collabs have appeared during this interim. ‘Clean Air’ and ‘Night Call’ are ideal for club selection, positively strutting into action, with the melody on ‘Clear Air’ reminiscent of the kind of coldwave eighties synth that might have made its way onto film soundtracks during the era. ‘Fanfatas’ is a fun outfit that unfolds gradually around one basic keyboard rift arriving at a destination that shimmers and overlays its way into genius.
