The wait is over! Or should we say - The State is over! Maribou State have returned to the fray with their first full-length in three years. Kingdoms In Colour is a record as exuberant and rich as its cover and title suggest. Building on the dancefloor-friendly plunderphonics of 2015’s Portraits, the duo of Chris Davids and Liam Ivory double down on the Bonobo-influenced sound that served them so well in the past. There is still a nice mix of melodic house numbers in the Bicep/Jamie xx vein - see ‘Turnmills’ and ‘Kama’ - and electronic songs to soundtrack festival sunsets. The Khruangbin collaboration is a particularly juicy morsel.
