Kathryn Joseph set the bar high with her debut LP Bones You Have Thrown Me, And Blood I’ve Spilled. It was released to great acclaim in 2015 and ended up being named Scottish Album Of The Year. Three years on and the Inverness-born singer-songwriter turns in a sophomore record just as stormy and potent as her first. From When I Wake The Want Is quilts Joseph’s vocals in piano, drums and a light dusting of electronics. The atmospheres conjure images of PJ Harvey and The Twilight Sad, while Joseph’s extraordinary voice is comparable to Joanna Newsom. The bar may have been high, but Joseph has vaulted it with aplomb.
