People just can’t get enough of that Low Countries synth stuff at the moment can they. A flurry of compilations and reissues from labels like Knekelhuis, Minimal Wave and Stroom have shone new light on the Belgian and Dutch minimal synth scenes of the 1980s. The former now follow up the well-received first volume of their Kale Plankieren series. What makes Kale Plankieren II so interesting is the wide array of DIY styles on display here. There are plenty of post-punk drum machine salvos, sure, but also weird industrial experiments (Van Kaye’s ‘White Dove’) and Klaus Nomi-esque pop-noir (Frank Dullaart’s ‘Trans Harmonic Dream’).
