Ken Downie returned to Dust Science in 2005 as The Black Dog alongside Martin and Richard Dust for a stunning and diverse album of mood-rich techno. It's a bewitching release of hard-crunching electronica and ancient historical references - the opening two part 'Trojan Horus' beats with all the cataclysmic weight and deftness of his best productions. There are though a lot of wonderfully restrained moments where the focus is primarily on creating ghostly ambience, as on the dark and silken 'Lam Vril', a single snapping beat propelled dreamily through dense pads, and the emotive 'Songs For Other People'.
