Canadian composer Tim Hecker celebrates a remastering and subsequent re-issue on Kranky, of his album Radio Amor, that was first released in 2003 by Mille Plateaux and subsequently by Alien8 Recordings. Inspired partially by Hecker’s observations of a Honduran fishing village, Radio Amor is a minimalist work constructed of drone sounds, guitar feedback, messy in spite of its majestic arrangement and composition. The sound manipulation on the album is noteworthy as Hecker regularly intentionally bewilders, the effect sometimes achieved by delivering two barely noticeable but unsynchronised drone sounds through the right and left channels. Highlights of the album include ‘Azure Azure’ and ‘The Star Compass’.
