While reports that this one is named after the Real Madrid men’s captain remain unconfirmed at the time of writing, the two tracks here share a similar toughness with old Sergio. Ploy has always impressed since debuting on Timedance in 2016, but ‘Ramos’ signals that we might have a game-changing talent on our hands. This is an incredible piece of soundsystem techno, as busy as Shangaan electro yet also deft, dubby and extremely danceable. On the flipside we get ‘Roy’s Rolls’, an edge-of-the-dancefloor drum track full of echoing fills and hallucinatory production tricks. It brings to mind James Blake circa ‘Order’/‘Pan’. This one comes highly recommended.
