The multi-instrumentalist, label owner and composer, Johnny Jewel, has been recording and releasing music since the mid-1990s. Jewel has played in multiple bands, including Chromatics, Glass Candy, Symmetry and Desire; all of which are signed to Jewel’s imprint, Italians Do It Better. Themes for Television is a continuation of the accomplished, analog vision that has made Jewel popular in recent years with tastemakers such as Ryan Gosling, who invited Jewel to construct the entire soundtrack to his 2014 directorial debut, Lost River. As a composer he has also worked on films such as Bronson (2008) and more recently contributed several pieces to David Lynch’s 2017 Twin Peaks series. Three of these compositions appear on Themes for Television, including a minimal edit of ‘Windswept’, which opens with a noir coalescence between synth and saxophone.
