After years of building buzz online, singer-songwriter Yuno gets a crack at the big time with Moodie, his first EP to be released on Sub Pop. The six tracks here strike a good balance between Yuno’s focussed aesthetic and his wide range of influences. It’s hard to make a tune like ‘No Going Back’, which is a sort of 2.0 version of Grizzly Bear’s ‘Two Weeks’, work alongside the Wavves-meets-Washed-Out ‘Why For’, but Yuno straddles the divide with aplomb. The chillwave influence is even stronger on ‘Galapagos’ and ‘So Slow’, while ‘Amber’ would have slotted neatly into Animal Collective’s Merriweather Post Pavilion.
