The first solo release in four years from Aus label owner Will Saul comes in the form of ‘Bugs’, an EP that the producer cites as being influenced as much by dancing to Bugz in the Attic sets at Co-Op/Plastic People as by the Innerzone Orchestra track, ‘Bug in the Bass Bin’. Influences of both can be spotted across Saul’s EP. Carl Craig’s Innerzone Orchestra touch is felt in the jazz infused drums, hi-hats and claps that litter ‘Bug’ and ‘The Map Room’, while the influence of the London collective and their Co-Op/Plastic People parties can be accredited to the broken beat aspects of Saul’s newest tracks. Matt Karmill’s remix provides something more spacy and chilled out on the B-side, but after a relaxed intro the pitch gently warps, warning us of what’s to come.
