After waiting patiently in the wings, DJ Lilocox finally scores his first solo release on Principe (DJ Nigga Fox, DJ Firmeza). Paz E Amor (Peace And Love) leans on the same head-screwing Batida sound of the best Principe releases, but Lilocox’s formula is a shade more streamlined than the whirligig productions of his contemporaries. There is a slight flavour of Kwaito House and gqom to cuts like ‘Paz E Amor’ and ‘Samba’ which sand off the edges of some of Batida’s more brain-bending rhythmic tricks. Closer ‘Fronteiras’ also displays a Balearic influence hitherto unexplored by anyone else on the Principe roster.
