Anton Newcombe et al show no signs of slowing down in middle age. Something Else is the band’s eighteenth LP and the first of two the group are set to drop in 2018. The nine tunes here are pretty standard TBJM fare, by which we mean psychy garage-rock of the sort that could have been laid to tape at any point since 1967. They show a slight mellowing with age on the sedate struts of ‘Hold That Thought’ and ‘Animal Wisdom’, though the likes of ‘Skin And Bones’ demonstrate that the band still have plenty of spark in them. All in all this is some nice easy listening to crack on while you wait around for the next Ariel Pink record.
