On record, This Heat were one of the most powerful forces in post-punk. The way that the Brixton group took the energy of punk and applied it to genres as wide-ranging as dub, industrial and music concrete was a visionary approach to music-making that the British music scene is only just catching up with now. While much of their aesthetic was built in-studio, the band were also a mean proposition live. Live 80-81 is culled from gigs This Heat played across Europe. Surviving members Charles Bullen and Charles Hayward have given the original cassette recordings a new lick of paint via a remastering job. The resulting record captures an essential group at the peak of their powers.
