Hugo Massien follows releases on the likes of XL, E-Beamz and 17 Steps with his first drop through Tectonic. The clue to the sonics of Advanced Aerial Threat lies in its grainy, X-Files-aping artwork. There is a neurotic nervousness that lurks within these four cuts, tracks which mix house, rave traxx, techno and hardcore. The title number and ‘Divisions From The Start’ are particularly paranoid, built on booming kicks and full of hi-hats skittering around the headphones. ‘Ursa Minor’ incorporates a pretty piano line atop its muted two-step, but a sense of unease proliferates from the thick bassline. Finally ‘Candy Flip’ is classic Midwest-style stargazing fare.
