Antinote (Toulouse Low Trax, Sign Libra) drop the long-awaited sophomore EP from Alek Lee. After his Sfarot EP caused a quiet stir in the early days of 2017, we were all eagerly anticipating Lee’s second drop. It’s clear now that Lee was simply taking time and care over the follow-up. The four tracks of Colors are more sprightly than those on Sfarot, with Lee favouring house tempos throughout. His sound here is a mixture of the dubby looptronics of Sfarot, Balearic beat and lo-fi house ala Project Pablo. Add in a dose of general zaniness - check the strange sounds and far-away autotuned vox of the title track - and you have a sophomore record that more than delivers on the promise of Lee’s debut.
