Marcus Marr’s DFA EP Familiar Five gets the remix treatment. A quartet of producers show the versatility of the classic four-to-the-floor here. Both Ara Koufax and Gerd Janson go down the house path on their entries. Their remixes are deep and melodic jams that will prove an asset to many a mix. Justin Van Der Volgen slows things down for his flip of Familiar Five’s title track, drawing out Marr’s groove and Serge Gainsbourg-esque vocal into an 8-minute-long Italo-inspired delight. Things close out with Prosumer’s characteristically hardwired techno take on ‘Rocketship’.
