After a debut LP so successful that even the marketing execs at XL must have been a little taken aback, Jungle limber up for the sophomore with this double A-side. The group have clearly employed an if-it-ain’t-broke-don’t-fix-it mentality here. Both ‘Happy Man’ and ‘House In L.A.’ would have slotted quite comfortably into that eponymous first album. That’s not to say that they’re particularly similar to each other, mind. While ‘Happy Man’ is a slice of sunny funk-pop replete with popping bass and those trademark falsetto vocals that the Arctic Monkeys subsequently jacked on AM, ‘House In L.A.’ eases up the beat while leaning heavier on the band’s latent psych-soul tendencies.
