Italian trio SabaSaba drop their debut LP via Maple Death Records (His Clancyness, Geodetic). On this self-titled record the group claim influences as wide-ranging as Horace Andy, J. G. Ballard and Coil, and there is certainly a feeling of dark portent to SabaSaba of which all three of the above would be proud. This is unnerving, primordial music, born from subconscious lusts and fears. The likes of ‘Drops’ and ‘Red Nights’ are as thick as treacle, and their cavernous drums and eerie samples slop about the monitors. Overall SabaSaba is an impressive opening salvo reminiscent of Radiante Pourpre and Muslimgauze.
