Soul Jazz Records’ excellent Boombox series gets a new volume. Yet again the label come through with a slew of rare gems, in this case selected from the glut of disco-rap and early hip-hop tracks that emerged in the wake of ‘Rapper’s Delight’. These party-starting, rump-shaking, block-rocking beats all managed to capture the contemporaneous Bronx spirit. Now Soul Jazz are putting it on wax. The sleeve notes also make for a mighty interesting read.
