Despite Daniel Avery’s latest LP Song For Alpha running to a lengthy fourteen tracks, it seems the producer has come up with a surfeit of material in the five years since Drone Logic. Following the album and January’s Slow Fade EP, we now get another four-track built around one of Song For Alpha’s highlights ‘Projector’. That track is a gorgeous, wistful piece of halcyon-glow techno that recalls the golden age of The Orb. The rest of the EP is all new material, and each of the trio takes an aspect of what makes ‘Projector’ great and runs with it. That means that ‘Shadow Mountain’ is a nice wedge of skittish minimal techno, ‘Glass’ is another lovely downtempo excursion, and ‘REHBGBV4367’ strips out the beat to create a beautiful, twinkling ambience.
