Amsterdam label Knekelhuis drop some new recordings from the hard to define cross-region French outfit Violent Quand On Aime. As label owner Mark Van De Maat states, one can feel something genuinely original in the groups work, somehow taking elements from 90s hip-hop and 80s post-punk whilst referencing musique concrete and schizoid techno along the way. There’s a lo-fi approach with crunchy drums and industrial rhythms propelling the tracks forward but compositions like ‘The Viper’ have an improvised feel that add an unexpected edge to proceedings. Beat tape demo vibes on ‘My Love’ too – super good!
