Good friend of Alec Empire and longtime breakcore upstart Christoph De Babalon has the luxury of re-releasing his Scylla & Charybdis record on its tenth anniversary via his own Cross Fade Enter Tainment (Unit Moebius, Paul Snowden). Both cuts top the twelve-minute mark, and each in their own way explores the limit of junglism and dark ambience. ‘Scylla’ is a dark and stormy affair, with a droning operatic opening section giving way to some disintegrated broken beat topped by CDB’s unsettling stage-whisper. ‘Charybdis’ is more limber, with drums skittering around at 180 bpm while some more nasty-sounding drones wail away off-stage.
