This release sees Istanbul-based DJ Kornelia Binicewicz aka Ladies On Records compile a selection of music from forgotten female Turkish singers of the 1970s and 1980s. Many are little-known even in their home country these days, but some concerted digging has unearthed some gems that may mean some of these singers experience a second wind of popularity. This compilation also serves as a wider insight into the melting pot of styles and the East-Meets-West pop aesthetic of the Ottoman nation. The fusions of disco, Arab string orchestras, psychedelic pop, folk, funk and more makes Turkish Ladies some illuminating and refreshing listening.
