In his first new material since January 2017’s Rennen LP, SOHN doubles down on the James Blake/Bon Iver thing that worked so well for him on that album. ‘Hue’ is one of the sparest, most tender things that he’s ever set to record. Built from a woozy piano loop which could have been snipped out of a Debussy Arabesque, SOHN dovetails his falsetto with swells of electronics and click-clack percussion. The result is somewhere between Adult Jazz and Jessie Ware’s ‘Wildest Moments’. B-side ‘Nil’ is more straightforward post-Dubstep electro-pop, a gently swelling synth guiding the track’s course over these three-and-a-half minutes.
