Berlin-based avant-popster Perera Elsewhere drops her new EP on longtime home Friends Of Friends (Sweatson Klank, Shlomo). As with her previous releases for the label, Drive combines good pop instincts with an adventurous sweep of production. While there is a smoky haze that hangs over the record - an influence from Elsewhere’s clear love of trip-hop - the bold production and songwriting choices bring to mind a spacier rendering of acts like tUnE-yArDs and Dirty Projectors. Wherever the instrumentals may roam, Elsewhere’s smoky voice always provides an anchor for the sound. The likes of ‘You’ve Lost’ also have a little Julia Holter about them.
