Shina Williams has long been something of a holy grail for fans of 70s and 80s Nigerian music. His few LPs fetch huge money on the vinyl black-market - we’re talking half a grand for clean copies - and, apart from occasional appearances on compilations, reissues have not been forthcoming. It’s great news, then, that the African Dances album that he cut alongside his ‘African Percussionists’ is being re-pressed by Mr. Bongo. It contains his most beloved song, the fantastically louche and groovy ‘Agb’oju L’ogun’, and two more lengthy jams that fuse Disco, Hi-Life, Afrobeat, Lagos Funk and more to brilliant effect.
