Known for a while as Ambivalent, Kevin McHugh switched up his name when founding Delft Records in 2013. He keeps his LA-4A moniker alive for his first outing on Central Processing Unit. Fairly standard CPU fare here, but of course this is a label that never fails to deliver. Slackline contains four wedges of bleepy, bloopy, vaguely acidic techno. The eponymous opener switches from a pretty opening sequence to a big, wacky roller after the drop; ‘Punishment’ and ‘Vague Complaint’ are big-beat 808 tunes that will stand out in many a set; and ‘Creased’ is a nice bit of Detroit-inspired dystopianism.
