Wire’s Pink Flag needs no introduction at this stage. The 1977 LP didn’t so much usher in the post-punk explosion of the subsequent years as it did re-write the rulebook. Every track here broke new ground: ‘Reuters’, the portentous and lumbering opener; short-and-sweet salvos like ‘Field Day For The Sundays’ and ‘Different To Me’; spindly groove tunes like ‘Three Girl Rhumba’ - every one of them unique, every one of them vital. This edition sees the original tapes remastered for clarity, while the ‘album bundle’ version of the CD comes with a host of bonus features - an 80-page book with extensive notes on all the songs, rare images of the band, demos and more.
