For those of you who don’t know, Smog was Bill Callahan’s main vehicle for many a year before he started releasing work under his own name. 1999’s Knock Knock ranks among Callahan’s finest LPs, and to celebrate the album’s twentieth birthday Drag City have opted to remaster and reissue the record (note that only the vinyl edition features the remastered audio). A gorgeous, tender, occasionally haunting set of modern-day Americana, Knock Knock still regularly crops up in ‘Best of the 90’s’ listings whenever they roll around and cuts like ‘River Guard’ remain live favourites to this day. Great artwork, too.
