Norwegian artist Tore Gjedrem (Ost & Kjex) adopts his Sex Judas alias for a strange but beguiling album that seems indebted to private press folk oddities, the slow-mo sad boogie of Arthur Russell & co, cosmic disco a la Prins Thomas and the repetitive nature of trad African styles. ‘All Good Junkies’ is the immediate standout, at least for our tastes. Hypnotic, melancholic and even a bit eerie despite sounded like it was recorded in the blistering heat of the Australian outback. Quite some feat for a pair of Norwegians. Either way, these guys have definitely been smoking something.
