After a couple of releases on Lee Gamble’s UIQ, rising star of Cairo’s experimental beat scene ZULI steps into the spotlight with this EP for Haunter Records (Broshuda, Petit Singe). Trigger Finger is about as far out as hip-hop beatwork can get before making the leap into avant-garde sound art. Tracks like ‘Ladies & Gents’ and ‘Your Tracks Are Too Short’ are noisy and disorientating, recalling Paul White’s most high-octane productions on Danny Brown’s Atrocity Exhibition. There is also a light UK influence on this EP, as evidenced by the jungle breaks on the title track and the grime-adjacent end of ‘X3’.
