Since 1993 Domino have woven a veritable tapestry of releases, taking in the great and the good, the big and the small from all generic pools of life. Laurence Bell and his partner Jaqui Rice begun the label with a then-novel vision of taking a punt on licensing up-coming indie-acts from across the Atlantic for sale in the U.K. Their first seven was a single from Lo-Fi grunge heroes Sebadoh and the rest soon followed. Indeed it was this mining of rich U.S talent here in the U.K that would prove decisive (see Will Oldham, Smog, Royal Trux, Animal Collective, Silver Jews to name a few).
Although marginalised during the flag-waving Britpop era Domino was soon to have the last laugh; ushering in a new spiky era in british-pop via Arctic Monkeys and Franz Ferdinand. The Domino roster is much more than skinny-white boys with guitars though... Check out the catalogue for Tricky, Yo Majesty, Four Tet, Caribou, Hood for evidence of that. Roll on...
