So at just over the halfway mark through what has been an incredible year, here is our roundup of the greatest releases thus far.
In the albums we’ve seen some of the most eagerly anticipated debuts from talented group Ezra Collective and LuckyMe’s Nathan Micay, the surprise return of Bogdan Raczynski, Konx-Om-Pax and Flying Lotus as well as jaw-dropping LPs from Caterina Barbieri and Rupert Clerveaux. Familiar names Burial, Four Tet, Floating Points, Blawan and Pariah have all made gallant returns too this year, with acts such as Call Super, FFT and Peggy Gou coming into their own alongside.
Delving through the archives, compilations from Light In The Attic, Brownswood, On-U Sound and Soul Jazz have kept us well informed this year. Reissues have finally surfaced of sought after classics such as Mort Garson’s Plantasia, Elecktroids' Kilohertz EP and Stereolab’s early catalogue in meticulously presented releases also.
