Swiss label WRWTFWW Records (in collaboration with the MEG museum) has two new releases ready from the legendary Japanese percussionist Midori Takada. A renowned composer whose 1980’s work set the gold standard for minimalism, any new music from Takada is cause for celebration. The first of these releases is Cutting Branches For A Temporary Shelter, her first new solo full length record in 23 years. Cutting Branches is culled from live sessions recorded at the MEG Museum in Geneva. The album is deeply inspired by the polyrhythmic sounds of traditional African music, especially that of the Zimbabwean mbira instrument. Its title (and the lengthy non-linear music contained within) is a tribute to that spark.
