Much of Alek Stark’s discography looks to the future, focussing on astrophysical concepts translated into electrifying albums under his multiple aliases. For his contribution to his Electro Records’ “Sci Fi Electro” series, he travels half a century backwards, paying tribute to Stanley Kubrick’s seminal 1968 film 2001: A Space Odyssey. Beginning with engine thrums, alien winds, and strange vocal harmonies, The Monolith soon evolves into curious yet unsettling electro. Sparking wires and high pitched signals are punctuated by fleeting moments of celestial ecstasy, distorted vocoders, and AI heartbeats.
