Mumdance Artist of the Year: Mumdance

Artist of the Year: Mumdance

In 2015 no artist stood out quite as much as Mumdance for sheer innovation, boundary pushing integrity and stone cold classic tunes. Mumdance showcased his penchant for joining the dots between scenes of underground electronic music by unleashing some of the most killer 12"s and collaborations of the year, highlights are of course '1 Sec' his XL debut produced with Novelist on mic duties, a 2015 update of the Eski grime sound with avant-garde textures and tones that was being rinsed by everyone everywhere and is sure to be one of the 12"s of the year. He also turned in an absolute sterling Fabriclive mix that spawned a series of 10" samplers featuring the Fabric VIP of 1 Sec backed with new music from Acre, FIS and Jefre Cantu-Ledesma. The mix itself started with noise-rooted flavours in the form of exclusive cuts from Shapednoise, @c, Sculpture and more before moving into weightless territories featuring cuts from his colder-than-cold collaboration album with Logos before ending on a run of happy hardcore. Other highlights included the epic Big Slug 12" with Riko and Pinch and his cyberpunk leaning collab as The Sprawl with Logos and Shapednoise whilst his Different Circles imprint dropped surefire bombs with Strict Face, Rabit and co-label head Logos' Glass EP. For us here at Bleep, 2015 has to belong to Mumdance and his cross genre adaptation of bringing together sounds and styles and scenes to create one vast sprawl of futuristic and full on electronic music.
