Little know fact that Byron Westbrook is not only an accomplished experimental musician, he's also a raging guitar player. My new record, On The Echoing Green would actually not exists if it wasn't for Byron's guitar playing, which is the central element to pretty much all the songs. A true renaissance man. This record is massive.
Felicia's work is just getting better and better. She's really on her own planet now - and what a weird planet it is. Lot's of disembodied vocal sounds and really deft synth playing.
Was sad to hear of Pauline's passing last year. Her work has had a massive effect on me, and this is one of my all time favorites. It's such a beautiful and light gesture..almost like nothing is there, yet really deep and moving. She'll be missed.
Kind of a shame Maggi's early computer music hasn't gotten more attention. She's a singular voice that's still making interesting work. This track (and the whole album) were made as soundtracks to some far out early live video work of dancers by a guy named Ed Tannenbaum. Look it up on the 'Tube - you wont regret it.
I always look forward to a new Dilloway release, and this one does not disappoint. Toxic as fuck. Very timely, obviously.
Have loved this LP since first grabbing it as a download on the Awesome Tapes site. Had the good fortune to see him perform at a festival a while back. Soulful, groovy, perfect zone for summer.
Vini Reilly - what can I say? He always hits the best mood. It took me a while to really fall into his whole world view, but once I did I was hooked. His guitar playing has really dominated my thinking about how to play the instrument for the last few years. Great drum machine work on this one too.
Hands down one of my all time favorite musicians. No one sounds like Richard Youngs...and you never know what Richard Young's will sound like...especially live! Also, a truly kind and gentle person.
