DJ-Kicks - Actress
This mix has such an interesting selection and really gives insight into the great and idiosyncratic Actress.
Discovered and became obsessed with some of Delay’s glitch-based albums last winter — subtle hip-hop rhythms anchored by even subtler harmonies make it somehow futuristic, retro, pastoral and chrome at once.
It's a Love Thing (The XXX Mono Mix)
Head High (Shed)
I love house music and especially love house music that is “about” house music — and Shed’s Head High alias delivers enormous, fat slabs of it.
Loud City Song
This is the first of Holter’s records I got really into, and to me it’s like a theatrical, optimistic, American-via-postwar-Europe take on post-rock a la Bark Psychosis.
Whichever Way You Are Going, You Are Going Wrong
It’s cosy inside. I love the muted wildness of Woo, it’s like 40’s jazz via krautrock specifically for lazy days.
“Rosegold” is easily one of the best tracks I’ve heard this year, helped greatly I’m sure by its Youtube video featuring Bart Simpson swaying “testify!” to the music, on loop.
Missing You (Jazz Cafe Mix)
Larry Heard is the master of the low-key house jam. This ‘Jazz Cafe’ mix of “Missing You”, by Larry himself, is possibly the coziest groove I can imagine.
Soul Jazz Records Presents Popol Vuh: Kailash - Pilgrimage to the Throne of Gods / Piano Recordings
Florian Fricke is a God and Popol Vuh are one of my favourite ‘rock’ bands ever — kraut or otherwise. He truly harnessed the power of repetition in his quasi-religious, beautiful devotional music.
