The release of the E-mu SP-1200 in 1987 heralded the ‘Golden Era’ of hip-hop music, widely regarded as spanning from the late 80s to mid 90s. The sampler’s crunchy, lo-fi sound and limited capabilities helped to fashion a gritty and experimental approach to beat-making, pioneered by legendary producers such as Pete Rock, Large Professor and Paul C.

This E-mu SP-1200 Golden Era poster continues the Entwurf series of iconic music making machines but with an added aspect referencing some of the classic tracks produced on it. The machine diagram is printed in matt solar gold, as a nod to the era, on a matt black background. Printed across the width and height of the poster, in a subtle UV spot varnish, is a list of artists and their tracks produced on the machine in chronological order covering the decade or so of the most revered time in the history of hip-hop production.
