On Tides: Music for Meditation and Yoga we welcome the return of one of our favourite artists, Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith. Commissioned by Kaitlyn's mother to accompany her yoga practice, Tides... features some of her earliest electronics experiments with the Buchla Music Easel, circa 2013.

Pre-dating her breakthrough recordings for Western Vinyl and RVNG Intl., Tides: Music for Meditation and Yoga is an ever pulsating and endlessly morphing ocean of sound, richly detailed due to the submerged sonics that Kaitlyn coaxes from her trusted Buchla, the ecology of the music perfectly fits between Eno's Discreet Music and the new age meanderings of Suzanne Ciani. Throughout the album we are treated to field recordings, wind chimes and forest sounds alongside the fluctuating drones, a bird song interlinks with a muted siren while a steam valve opening and closing produce the sound of the surf rolling back and forth. These real-world sounds act as a counterpoint to the pastoral aspirations of their electronic counterparts, meaning that the sounds heard, both natural and synthesized, overlap to give a truly meditative, out of body feeling to each piece.
