Samarbeta present a very special release in the form of a book and CD of poetry and short stories from NY no wave mystique Lydia Lunch and an array of Northern spoken word artists, composed during her residency in October 2015 at Islington Mill in Salford. Following the Charles Hayward album from a while back Samarbeta knock our socks off with this beautifully put together release, the label describes the background perfectly "She (Lydia) worked with 30 local spoken word artists and ran 2 workshops entitled: From the Page to the Stage.

The aim of these workshops was to give participants confidence to perform live on stage and the outcome was to perform at a live show". By enlisting the assistance of various Northen poets for this project, Lydia really dug herself into the culture and local dialect scenery of Salford's long standing and slightly gritty poetry and storyteller scene. Stemming from the folk clubs of the 60's, through the suited and booted L.S. Lowry stickman on the run from the everyday work/words of John Cooper Clarke, and more recent voices of the North such as poet Mike Garry.

The work of the locals sits well besides Lydia's homespun poems and stories and the overall release makes for a thoroughly engaging experience, perfectly placed to loose a few hours in the company of. We would say this is a huge recommendation for anyone and everyone who counts themselves as fans of otherworldly words and sounds of John Cooper Clarke, This Heat or the Sacred Tapes collective. Compellingly unique.
